No wonder he's not going to resign anytime soon.

Want to know why Roger Goodell didn't even think about resigning after the Ray Rice scandal last month? Former NFL player Sean Gilbert—who is interested in trying to become the next NFLPA executive director—just explained why. He sent an email to a bunch of media members earlier today claiming that the NFL Commissioner has made a staggering $210 million since 2006. His salary when he first took over as Commish was "only" $6.5 million. But since then, well, just look:

Goodell's pay actually took a nosedive in 2008 after it eclipsed the $10 million per year mark in 2007. But since then, he has received a substantial raise almost every year. And in 2014, he stands to make more than $44 million…just like he did in 2012 and 2013.

Gilbert's point here seems to be that Goodell is making a huge profit off the league and, more importantly, off the league's players right now but not doing enough to help them. And he's right. Goodell is pocketing quite a bit of cash thanks to NFL owners and, to a degree, NFL players. But if Gilbert wants to unseat DeMaurice Smith, the current NFLPA executive director, he's probably going to need to do more than this to illustrate how he'll help the players get rich. Otherwise, all this is going to do is make them hate Goodell even more than some of them already do.
