New York City was the host today for Nike's Flynight Flyknit event which featured special guest Kobe Bryant talking about his latest shoe the Kobe 9 and its newest colorways.

As we eagerly wait for the release for the Black Mamba's latest signature sneaker, Nike fills us in on the rhyme and reason these colors came to be. Below is the name of each colorway along with what influenced each model.

Inspiration
The Inspiration color story is a tribute to the Los Angeles Lakers and the purple and gold that he's proudly worn during his 18 year career. This is the debut color that Kobe will rock upon his return to the hardwood.  These hit retail March 1.

Perspective
Drawing inspiration form Picasso and his blue period from 1901 to 1904, the Perspective oddly enough is the flashiest of this group runs with a teal upper contrasted with a bright yellow swoosh flywire details, and graphic elements. The release date is set is for March 8.

Detail
Michaelangelo is whom the Detail colorway of the Kobe 9 is modeled after. Known for being a true Renaissance man, Michaelangelo's sculptures are amongst the most treasured works of art in human history. The marblesque detailing and statuesque grey color pays respect to the great Italian artist and also draws from Kobe's own Italian heritage. These will hit shelves March 22.

Energy Release
The white/volt and black/white models below will be sold exclusively at Nike 21 Mercer and the Dover Street Market in NYC starting tomorrow, January 26.
