Best of 2012: The Air Jordan XI is the #5 Sneaker of the Year

It's that time of year again. Time to reflect back on the best sneaker releases of the year and 2012 has been filled with memorable footwear moments. To determine the Top 10 Sneakers of 2012, we gathered a panel of experts for a round table battle discussion. The panel includes legendary DJ and sneaker expert, DJ Clark Kent, founder of Influence Mktg, Jay Corbin, founder and front man of Nice Kicks, Matt Halfhill, Ronnie Fieg of Kith, Jesse Villanueva of ALIFE, Frank the Butcher of Butcher's Block TV. Representing Complex in the discussions were Sneaker Editor Russ Bengtson and Director of Content Strategy Joe La Puma.

After much debate, the panel chose the Air Jordan XI in the black and red colorway as the #5 Sneaker of 2012. Clearly, the heritage of this sneaker, specifically, Michael Jordan's performance in the NBA Playoffs in 1996, make it one of the most special sneakers of all time. Click play on the video below to see how the panel decided on the Air Jordan XI as the #5 Sneaker of the Year.
