It is astonishing how rapidly Rick and Morty turned into Adult Swim's most prized cult phenomenon. In three seasons, the show gained a massive number of devoted followers who single-handedly brought back McDonald's Szechuan sauce. Despite the cartoon's widespread popularity, co-creator Dan Harmon says a season 4 hasn't been ordered.

Harmon responded to a tweet criticizing his capacity to write the fourth season Rick and Morty. He relayed the news in his wonderfully snarky response.

"I hear ya, tough spot," he wrote. "On one hand, it can be challenging, especially with crippling lazy alcoholism, to write a show that hasn’t been ordered by a network. On the other hand, the thought that fans like you pay the price... I mean... I’m gonna grab a drink."

Around this time last year, fans petitioned for a third season due because the writing process was slower than they liked. The first episode of that season aired as a surprise on April Fools' Day before the rest of the episodes aired through the summer. Adult Swim hasn't officially announced a renewal for Rick and Morty since the season finale aired last October.
