Over the weekend, the satire website The Daily Currant used Kanye West's current media tour and the recent passing of political icon Nelson Mandela to fabricate an interview where West declared himself "the next Nelson Mandela." The cornucopia of people Ye has compared himself to—Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Shakespeare—and the spirited nature with which he's delivered those comparisons made the story all the more easy to believe, even though there was no interview source cited. A quick Google search of The Daily Currant immediately reveals that everything on the site is fake (its tagline is "The Global Satirical Newspaper Of Record") and the "news" was swiftly dispelled. But, as always, Kanye has the last word on the farce. He has taken to Twitter to address the situation. Read below.

Respect to Mandela, his family and his legacy.
Despite recent media reports, I've never said anything to dishonor or trivialize the life or transition of one of the most inspiring leaders
I'd like to address the false stories and noise that have been engineered by the media.
At a young age my mother taught me the importance of his work. Mandela sacrificed his life for the betterment of mankind.
Thank you, Mandela, for your life's work and may it serve as a guiding light to illuminate our future.
