Three people are dead and 14 others are wounded after a gunman fired into a crowd on a popular stretch of South Street in Philadelphia late Saturday night.

Mass shooting in Philadelphia leaves 3 dead, 14 wounded

Three people are dead and 14 others are wounded after a gunman opened fired into a crowd on a popular stretch of South Street in Philadelphia late Saturday night.

NBC Philly reports the gunfire erupted shortly before midnight in the city’s Queen Village neighborhood. Police observed “several active shooters shooting into the crowd,” according to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace.

An officer fired at one of the active shooters, who subsequently fled the scene. It is not yet known if the suspect was struck. Two guns were recovered at the scene.

The victims killed include a 26-year-old woman, a 22-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, police said.

“The surge in gun violence that we’ve seen across the nation – and here in Philadelphia – makes me not just heartbroken, but angry,” Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said Sunday.

“Once again, we see lives senselessly lost and those injured in yet another horrendous, brazen and despicable act of gun violence. My heart is with the family, friends, loved ones of those lost or injured, and with everyone impacted by this terrible tragedy.”

No arrests have been made.
