The president's missed attempt at complaining about press coverage sparked a sensation.

Early Wednesday morning, Donald Trump began tweeting something about negative press coverage—or at least, that's our best guess about what he meant to say. Instead, what came out was something rather, um, different. He said, "Despite the constant negative press covfefe."

Who can figure out the true meaning of "covfefe" ??? Enjoy!

Surely he'd notice his error and delete it immediately, right? Guess again. It stayed up for most of the early morning before being deleted, and Trump eventually replaced his "covfefe" tweet with this:

Somebody ran across a room and slapped his phone out of his hands yelling "Noooooooo" in slo-mo once they saw he was tweeting. 😂😂 https://t.co/XUzytLjWU2

Of course, there was no end of jokes and speculation.

Don't even talk to me until I've had my covfefe.

Do not stop using #Covfefe suddenly or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to safely stop using Covfefe.

What about the negative press @realDonaldTrump? #covfefe

Naturally, "covfefe" quickly got a Twitter account of its very own.

And merch:

Can't wait for Spicer to tell us tomorrow that the tweet speaks for itself

As to what the president meant to say? Well, we may have to wait for Wednesday's press briefing to figure it out.
