Hillary Clinton's Brooklyn campaign office had to be evacuated on Friday night after what a white, powdery substance was found inside a letter addressed to the campaign. The office is on the 11th floor of 1 Pierrepont Place, in Brooklyn Heights.
The letter was first opened by two interns in the candidate's Manhattan office, where mail for the campaign is sent, at around 5:30 p.m. Then it was taken to the Brooklyn office, where it arrived about a half hour later. The whole floor was evacuated, and it was determined that four people—the two interns and two more from the Brooklyn office—were exposed to the substance. The Secret Service and the Office of Emergency Management were both reportedly on the scene, according to the New York Post.
Complex spoke to Lieutenant Antonetti of the NYPD's Press Relations Office, who said that the floor of the building was evacuated "for precautionary purposes, due to an envelope that contained a white powdery substance." He said that "there were no ill effects felt by anyone at the location."
"What exactly it is, be it sugar, be it something else, that's being investigated now by the appropriate authorities to determine what it is," he continued.
