Who said love and politics don't mix? If you're single and anti-Donald Trump, there's a new dating app for you. Maple Match is a soon-to-launch dating service that promises to "Make Dating Great Again" by pairing single Americans opposing a possible Trump presidency with single Canadians.

According to the app's website, "Maple Match makes it easy for Americans to find the ideal Canadian partner to save them from the unfathomable horror of a Trump presidency." The app is still in its waitlist phase, and interested users are only able to submit their contact information, nationality, and the reason they would like to join. But it has already been getting all kinds of responses already.

"Please help me," an American wrote, according to The Guardian. "I found out my parents are voting for Trump and it literally broke my heart."

Joe Goldman, the 25-year-old behind the idea, started Maple Match as a way to make people smile, but the increase in demand since it first went live has revealed the website is no laughing matter. It has burgeoned from 100 waitlist requests in total to 200 requests per hour.

Goldman told The Guardian, he's a liberal in Austin, TX, a city colloquially known as the blueberry in tomato soup because the city's liberal leanings don't match the state's overall conservative attitudes. And while the website started as a joke, Goldman could identify a demographic for it.

"Americans are using this as a serious opportunity to meet Canadians," he said. "People have been sending me paragraphs of explanation. People have been sending me pictures of themselves. I’ve had people begging me to start this. We’re not just building an anti-Trump app. We’re building something that connects people across borders, and that’s something that has the potential to grow."

Goldman says people's responses show their frustration with the current political climate and with dating app options. "A lot of Americans really want to meet Canadians," he said. "They’re looking for something new and something better.

Maple Match may take some time to move beyond the waitlist phase, but for now, Twitter seems to be a huge fan of the idea.
