Ohio Gov. John Kasich Cut More Than $1 Million in Federal Funding for Planned Parenthood

Ugh.

Sorry, women of Ohio. When it comes to having access to affordable reproductive health services, you’re out of luck. Ohio Gov. John Kasich just signed a bill that would cut more than $1 million in federal grant funding from Planned Parenthood.

Kasich signed the legislation, which will cut $1.3 million from the nonprofit, on Sunday. The bill prevents government money from going to organizations that advocate or perform abortions, the Associated Pressreports. Despite what many conservatives has proclaimed, the majority of the women’s health organization’s services involve HIV and STI testing, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and contraception.

According to Time, state officials also claimed clinics in the state illegally disposed of aborted fetuses in landfills. This comes after an anti-abortionist group released heavily edited video of officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue. Planned Parenthood is suing them for fraud, invasion of privacy, illegal secret recording and trespassing.
