Lupe Fiasco On The Making of Japanese Cartoon's "In The Jaws of The Lords of Death"
When we recently spoke with Lupe Fiasco, we didn't just talk about his current label woes. We also spoke to him about his new punk rock band Japanese Cartoon and their debut EP, In The Jaws of The Lords of Death (free download here). Formed after Lupe began creating reference tracks for Matthew Santos, which came out better than expected, Japanese Cartoon consists of Lupe (billed under his real name, Wasalu Muhammad Jaco), Graham Burris (bass), Matt Nelson (keyboards), and Le Messie (production). Intrigued, we got Lupe to give us a track-by-track breakdown of the EP and explain the recording process, inspiration behind the songs, and what the songs are supposed to represent.
