Yeezy Season 2 has been the subject of plenty of ridicule for its oversized and distressed look and the first collection caught plenty of flak for its exorbitant prices. That's no secret. But someone actually went a step further and decided to break down all of the supposed "flaws" in the latest collection. The Cutting Class asked the question,"Is it ever ok to have bad finishes?" when it comes to evaluating the "quality" of construction in clothing.
Looking at the stretched out elastic cuffs, the puckering zippers and the distressed stitching, it makes you wonder how the pieces were treated that led to that look and if it's intentional or not. If you've ever put a piece of clothing with a zipper through the wash, you know how fucking annoying it can be when it puckers afterwards. It basically ruins the whole thing. If these details here were an accident, how does that change the way we look at the collection? Maybe this was a situation where the samples came back looking like this and they were forced to go with it and the final product will have improved quality. Some labels love channeling these "mistakes" and making them part of the piece, but they typically remain a detail and rarely take over an entire garment. Perhaps that was Kanye's intention as well. But on a "luxury" collection, I think many people would expect better finishes. So whether you consider them actual flaws is up to personal interpretation. More than anything, someone spending more than a minute or two thinking about this clearly is a huge fucking nerd. Just like us. We appreciate you.
The post goes into some other details about how we perceive these details and looks, so head over and give it a read.
