Some Retailers Are Choosing To Close Their Doors On Black Friday

None

Deciding that they are above falling into the retail-industrial complex and making all of the money, some companies are getting on their high horse and choosing to close their doors on Black Friday, according to The Wall Street Journal. REI, for instance, will not be open, but is still paying its employees for the day and encouraging them to spend the holiday outdoors and GameStop is opening several hours later to help boost morale. But honestly, I don't think anyone really gives a shit what store is or isn't open on Black Friday. These "sacrifices" feel like a branding play to say "look at how much better we are than this."

Avoiding the trap of ruining everyone's holiday by stepping back in protest is all fine and good, but as long as the big names like Target, Walmart and Best Buy continue to peddle flat screen TVs for pennies on the dollar like always, none of this even matters. Like everything else, even social justice is scalable. If anything, this is only going to make what is already a clusterfuck even more inconvenient for rabid consumers. Even if this is advantageous to smaller stores who don't want their employees trampled to death, the big box stores control Black Friday and that's the end of it. See you on the field, fam.
