Tedious or painstaking are words you don't often want associated with your artistic process. However, in the case of Teun Hocks it all fits. His photographic paintings are prepared by first constructing a scene in his studio, then photographing himself in the scene, and finally painting the gelatin silver print with oil. In so doing, he bridges photography and painting and creates some frankly insane narratives (called constructed imagery). The ideas are all fun and never fail to force a reaction.
Recent Works is on view through June 23, 2012.
