Documentary photographer Ettore Moni is fed up with your blatant disregard for the alpine landscape. In his breathtaking photo series "Alps," Moni explores the irreparable damage years of high altitude tourism have caused to these once picturesque panoramas. Moni hopes that these photographs will “sensitize everybody and make them be aware of the irreversible damage that is nowadays suffered by our wonderful landscapes.”
Admittedly all tourism has its pros and cons, and although Moni acknowledges the positive attributes of creating a more livable landscape in such an inhospitable environment, his disdain for the ultimate demise of these once untouched landscapes is made quite clear. For Moni, “The pictures of this inquiry aim at upsetting the viewers to make them feel like any mountain enthusiast who at the end of their trip are faced with something they would not want to find.”
Such a photo series begs the question of when will we begin to curb our vacation destinations for the sake of conservation. After all, the best getaways are the ones that take you the farthest, but is your vacation really worth the destruction of these once remarkable landscapes, or are we just postponing the inevitable?
