Scooter LaForge loves to use clothes as a canvas. Within the past couple of years, the NYC artist has worked with big fashion names— such as Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck and renowned stylist Patricia Field—on unique apparel collaborations that featured his psychedelic art. And this week, LaForge is revealing his latest capsule collection made exclusively for VFILES.

Featuring a range of  hand-painted, re-appropriated military regalia, this special release includes items like parkas, trench coats, vests, and grenades—all of which are covered in his signature pop art/abstract expressionism style. The bright colors and slightly eerie imagery are right in line with VFILES’ rebellious aesthetic, and are definitely not suitable for those who like to blend in.

“People really do want something only they can have,” LaForge says in the video interview above. “Sometimes when you see celebrities in full designer, it gets boring. I mean, don’t you just turn the page? There’s a lot of […] kids who write me and they want shirts, and they’re the only ones who are daring enough to wear this stuff. They become the gallery. They become the museum. And that’s what I love about making clothes.”

Take a look below to see pieces from the upcoming capsule collection, which officially drops tomorrow at VFILES' SoHo location and online store. While you wait for the release, be sure to check out the behind-the-scenes video above, in which LaForge discusses his unique style, growing up “different,” and the moment he found out Beyoncé rocked one of his jackets.
