Supreme has given shoppers a first glimpse inside their New York City pop-up, which will temporarily replace the brand's historic Lafayette location while it undergoes renovations for the first time since 1994.
Supreme shared the first preview via Instagram on Thursday. "While we renovate our Lafayette St. store, we are temporarily moving to 190 Bowery. 02/21/2019," they wrote. Based on the size of the store and the large Mark Gonzales sculpture within, it doesn't seem like the renovations will be concluding anytime soon.
The brand's new storefront at 190 Bowery isn't the worst location for a temporary SoHo location. According to The New York Times, photographer Jay Maisel bought the building in 1966 for a mere $100,000 and converted the former Germania Bank into a six-story 72-room home for him and his family. In 2015, real-estate developer Aby Rosen purchased the building for $55 million, renting out the first floor to temporary shops. In classic Supreme fashion, the fitting rooms will be located in the former bank vaults, giving it that extra touch of kitsch excellence.
In addition to temporarily relocating their storefront in NYC, the streetwear brand has also been dropping hints surrounding the opening of a flagship in Milan. In the brand's Spring/Summer 2019 lookbook, the “Metallic Jacquard” crewneck lists Milan as one of the cities where Supreme is located.
