"Toy Stories" Photo Series Presents Children Around the World With Their Favorite Playthings
A child's most prized possessions.

Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti embarked on a 18-month-long project around the world to document children with their favorite toys, revealing both sides of the story: what all of them have in common and what is drastically different. The photo series, "Toy Stories," features children from countries including Thailand, Italy, Haiti, Kenya, Costa Rica, China, India, and the United States, among others. While you may expect all children to seem content posing next to their favorite possessions, some seem indifferent while others look a little glum. The types and numbers of material possessions shown represent a range of socio-economic classes in different nations. At the same time, no matter where they come from, they are more alike than they seem. Describing young children Galimberti said, "At their age, they are pretty all much the same; they just want to play.”
