LIKEarchitects Make Traffic Cones Interesting in New Public Sculpture

You would normally expect to see traffic cones on the road, but this set of orange cones call a park their home. Portuguese LIKEarchitects have created a new public installation in Paredes City Park in Portugal, composed of 500 plastic traffic cones. The sculpture, titled "(I)cone," challenges their conventional iconic meaning and stands as a new form.

Designers selected the somewhat simple traffic cone as their building material for the lasting, weather-resistant qualities of plastic. Placed amidst grass and trees, the sculpture's bright colors are bound to catch everyone's eye. The interactive artwork also allows for visitors to walk through its spaces, while at night LED lights illuminate the piece. Where you would least expect to see a bright orange traffic cone, you will find the best ones you have ever seen.
