Artist Feeds Paint to Flies, Insects Create Extraordinary Abstract Art (Video)

Los Angeles-based artist John Knuth proves that the common housefly is more than a buzzing pest. For his project "Made in Los Angeles," Knuth bred and kept over 250,000 flies in his studio. He fed the flies a mixture of sugar, paint, and water. The flies, in turn, created abstract paintings from their food. The flying artists were kept inside a space covered in blank canvases for six weeks as they digested and regurgitated various pigments throughout the surrounding surfaces. The result was a set of abstract images composed of random but seemingly organized specks, splotches, strokes, and smears.
