Here's another fact that'll convince you that end times are upon us. According to Expedia’s 2014 Flip Flop Report, nearly 74 percent of beachgoers worldwide give the thumbs up to speedos—marking nearly a 10 percent rise in approval since last year.

After polling over 11,000 adults across 24 countries, the survey broke down where and by whom banana hammocks have gained acceptance. Brazil has the highest approval rating, with 95 percent of those polled giving a thumbs up to the teeny bathing suit. Austria, Germany, and Spain all have over 90 percent approval ratings, and the U.S. remains divided on the issue with 57 percent saying speedos are cool to rock on the beach.

And then there are those who even find a speedo too constricting: nude sunbathers. The survey reported that German and Austrians are the most likely to disrobe fully in the sand, with 28 percent of participants from each country saying they've gone buck naked by the sea.
