Pharrell Williams has often gotten praise for his cutting-edge taste in fashion, but now he’s been crowned “the king of drip” by 21 Savage.
In a tweet shared on Sunday, 21 praised the 48-year-old multi-hyphenate. “Pharrell is the king of drip!!” wrote the Atlanta rapper. “How the hell he do that shit for so long? [facepalm emoji].”
It’s a bold claim, but it’s also far from an unwarranted one. He’s been producing for some of the most important acts in hip-hop, R&B, and pop for almost three decades, and that’s not even mentioning his solo material or albums with N.E.R.D. Throughout his career, Pharrell has consistently pulled off some of the most eye-grabbing outfits in music, and it always showed in who he was collaborating with, too.
Pharrell offered up a response to 21’s comments, thanking his homestate of Virginia for his sense of fashion. “From Virginia… it’s Something in the Water,” he wrote, referring to his Virginia Beach festival of the same name.
Alongside his collaborations with the likes of Moncler and Adidas, Pharrell has remained a huge influence on fashion trends. Not only was he responsible for founding Billionaire Boys Club alongside Rob Walker and NIGO, he also helped popularize bold all-over prints from A Bathing Ape and other similar streetwear brands.
For all of his fashion wins, though, he has yet to explain THAT hat.
