Bay area artist Sam Grant considers his photography and paintings as two separate parts of his artistic self, and he is bringing them together for the first time in an exhibition this March at Loakal Art Galleryin Oakland. "Double Vision" opens on March 7 and will show through April 1.
Grant's paintings are said to "border on surreal," while his photographs are described as having a "retroinspired aesthetic reminiscent of the pop culture visuals of the 1960s." Together the works convey Grant's imagination and speak to a nostalgia that pre-dates his own (as he wasn't born until 1978). It is interesting to see the two bodies of work displayed together because they do seem to be from two different artists with shared sensibilities. Check out the preview shots above and head to Loakal's website for more information.
