Although Japanese, Undercover's Jun Takahashi has stayed away from Japanese references, telling Vogue, “Because of my ancestors, the Japanese subject is difficult to approach.” But for his Fall 2020 men's and women's show, he dug deep into his Japanese heritage. The clothes, which included hoodies modeled after kimonos, and sweats covered in images of the movie. But it was clear Takahashi wanted the show to not just be about the clothes, but theater.

Held at the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione in Paris, a venue meant for circuses and musical concerts, the show referenced Throne of Blood, a 1957 Japanese film written and directed by Akira Kurosawa, that takes William Shakespeare's Macbeth from Medieval Scotland to feudal Japan. Undercover presented a three-part show, choreographed by Damien Jalet with music  created by L.I.E.S. RECORDS.

The main character, Tom Weinberger, circles a moving white mound of sheets that ends up being three witches who seduce and leave him on the mountain where he's forced to dodge a volley of arrows that dropped from the ceiling. This was interspersed by a men's and women's runway show. It was entrancing and for a moment, you forgot where you were and why you were there.—Aria Hughes
