Actress, comedian, and The View host Whoopi Goldberg is adding designer to her resumé with a line of Christmas sweaters, and the collection looks, umm, interesting, to say the least.
"You can't call them 'ugly.' Mine are kind of 'funny Christmas sweaters' or 'Christmas sweaters with a twist,'" Whoopi explained to Vogue, noting that each piece boasts her signature special touch of "funny, weird things that I like to see," including a warped Charlie Brown Christmas tree version and other options that bring in other faiths.
"There’s an octopus; he is wearing a yarmulke. He has a menorah and he is trying to hold everything. There is a little boy who’s decorating the Christmas tree and he's holding the yarmulke and he's got dreidels; he's got Christmas trees. It’s basically about how we are all in this together...I love the Rockettes, and I felt that we should have reindeer like Reindeer Rockettes...There's a great one of two Santas kissing, one white Santa and one black Santa, and it's fantastic."
Whoopi already has plans for future designs that will strive to include even more people into the ugly Christmas sweater tradition. "There will be a Kwanzaa sweater next year, a Ramadan sweater. I just want to cover everything. The holidays, regardless of what you believe—it should be a day, a week, a month of let’s all be together. Silly sweaters can unite us and what is better than that?" The line will be sold exclusively at Lord & Taylor and Hudson's Bay starting this October so that everyone can start stocking up for their ugly sweater holiday parties well in advance.
