Vanessa Beecroft, the performance artist responsible for staging Kanye West's Yeezy fashion shows, has spoken out about Yeezy Season 4 and addressed criticism over treatment of the models.

During an artist talk at The House of Peroni on Thursday, Beecroft claimed the models who fainted while waiting for the presentation to start were under "emotional stress," reports The Cut.

"That’s a production issue not related to me," Beecroft said. "I’m not sure why some people fainted yesterday, but in my case, when it has happened in my performances, it was the level of emotional stress. … It wasn’t physical. There was food and water. The situation is so intense and people are looking at you and you are standing."

Many assumed that the models were fainting due to the extreme heat and exhaustion and were upset they weren't getting immediate treatment from anyone. But Beecroft, who wasn't at the show, seems confident that it was "not physical."

"Yesterday, I don’t know if it was because they were overwhelmed,” Beecroft continued. "I’m not sure … I was bothered yesterday in a sense that I’m sorry for what’s happening, but at the same time, I wouldn’t know how to prevent it if it was emotional."

Beecroft also said she believes the delay behind the show's start time was part of his plan.

"Everyone was in a state of meditation,” she told Page Six. "The long wait before, I believe it was planned because [West] wanted the audience to get into this state of having to observe and having to stay."
