New Zealanders are retweeting a picture of three beanies at a crazy rate, in a digital frenzy for free headwear.
The beanie phenomenon was started almost 24 hours ago, when KFC New Zealand’s Twitter account announced they were giving away three beanies. That’s it. Three beanies. All the Kiwis had to do to score themselves a fire red beanie adorned with a KFC logo was retweet the post. Simple enough.
Beanie fever soon took over though, as the post has been retweeted over 6000 times in just under 24 hours, a significant slice of the country's population. It has been retweeted an average of 4 times per minute, which again is truly unbelievable when all that’s on offer is the chance to win one of three beanies. Despite the meagre prize on offer though, desperate New Zealanders are furiously posting their way to a warmer head and ultimately, a better life.
Some entrants are having second thoughts though.
KFC threw fuel on the fire only hours after posting the enticing product shot, with this photo of the beanie in action.
They have also had to knock back would-be entrants from overseas, as beanie mania threatened to go global.
The prize will be drawn at 4pm NZ time, meaning there’s still a few hours for our bros across the Tasman to enter and claim this glorious prize. Until then, we’ll sit back and watch beanie mania take New Zealand.
