Wiz Khalifa’s personal style has undergone a major evolution.

In the early stages of his career, the 28-year-old rapper was regularly seen in relaxed streetwear staples like graphic T-shirts, hoodies, backpacks, and snapbacks. Fast forward to today, and we’ve come to associate Wiz with a much more refined sense of style—one comprised of tailored looks and some of the most coveted high-end labels. But despite his newfound appreciation for the luxe, Wiz insists his style is still a true reflection of himself.

“It’s been in the past few years, where I became more knowledgeable about brands and fit, and being able to make my own way in the fashion game as opposed to doing what everyone else does,” he tells Vogueduring an interview for his “Elevated” music video. "I’ve always been unique and been able to stand out just on my own, but having Lauren (Matos, celebrity stylist) and people who understand me help take it to that next level.”

Wiz goes on to explain that his style is a mix of “high-end vibes” and  a “rock ‘n’ roll vibe,” crediting legendary musicians Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison as his inspirations. But at the end of the day, he says it’s all about doing what he wants to do—finding brands and designs he feels good in, while also making sure he has pieces for different occasions. And, of course, a strong arsenal of cool pants

You can read the full Q&A, in which Wiz also discusses the inspiration behind the “Elevated” video and his own marijuana strain, at the Vogue website.
