Karl Lagerfeld presented his latest S/S 16 collection for Chanel in a mocked-up airport terminal because there is really no one in this world that is on his level. While the set was fucking enormous and downright incredible, I still think the F/W 13 show with the ginormous globe in the middle is my favorite. Anyway, for a story in its November issue, Vogue UK talked to Lagerfeld and got some choice quotes because in this particular area of expertise even Kanye is a distant second to his sheer level of quotability.
He, like Yohji Yamamoto, says he's going to be designing until his last breath: "You know my contracts with Fendi and Chanel are for life? And I don't feel tired at all. I hate slow people. Horrible." You can go ahead and add "slow people" to the comprehensive list of everything that Karl Lagerfeld hates. But the BEST quote is definitely centered around his otherworldly levels of productivity as he runs Chanel, Fendi and his own label all at once. You see, Lagerfeld works so hard that somebody actually asked him to do a DNA test to see if they could find anything in his genetic makeup that makes him work goddamn hard: "I was asked by somebody to do this because they think I'm not normal. But I flatly refused. Unique pieces are unique pieces. But I think very flattering, huh? And also I was asked for skincare for men because they think I am remade. But I am not remade. I am all fake but not remade." Yep, Lagerfeld is a fucking alien. Called it.
