When Alexander Wang announced he would be parting ways with Balenciaga earlier this year, it wasn't long before the industry began speculating on who would take his place.

Today, the Parisian fashion house is putting all rumors to rest, as it has finally named its new creative director: Demna Gvasalia, the head designer for the young, Kanye West-approved French label Vetements.

“We really wanted somebody that has a vision, and someone capable of reshuffling the cards,” Balenciaga’s CEO and president Isabelle Guichot told WWD. “I was really amazed by his ability to develop an approach to the brand that was really new and that was really his own…what should be the attitude, what should be the silhouette, what should be the volumes.”

Before debuting Vetements last year, Gvasalia had worked behind the scenes for luxury labels Maison Margiela and Louis Vuitton.

Guichot told WWD that Gvasalia will continue his design duties at Vetements (a 2015 LVMH Prize finalist), and will present his first show for Balenciaga in March.
