It’s that time of year when international jetsetters, fashion editors, buyers, and stylish celebrities descend upon the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week. The action took place in a different setting—moving from Lincoln Center to the Skylight Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Square, bringing NYFW away from midtown and closer to the downtown action. We went to plenty of the most anticipated shows and are more than pleased to break down the best stuff we saw.
1. super stylish kids
Fashionable parents beget stylish children, and everyone loves a well-dressed kid. There were plenty of future swag lords in attendance at NYFW, many of them even outdressed the adults! Of course, North West's front row appearance on her mom's lap was one of the most memorable moments from the week—babies in on-point outfits are the ultimate accessory.
2. serious #FROWing
#FROWing is the industry term for all the front row action. From influencers like Eric West and Shaun Ross to stars like Kylie Jenner, shows like Prabal Gurung's Lexus Design Disrupted event were packed to the gills with famous faces.
3. Prabal Gurung's solemn opening
Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung was deeply affected by the recent earthquake that hit the country, so much so that he helped raise over $600,000 for relief efforts. The disaster was still on his mind at his Lexus Design Disrupted event, as he opened the show in the company of Tibetan and Nepalese monks who preceded the models sashaying down the runway with a solemn chant.
4. Laxman Shrestha's clothing collaboration
Prabal Gurung's Lexus Design Disrupted show contained a plethora of dresses, but the standout pieces were the ones that included beautiful prints done in collaboration with Indian artist Laxman Shrestha. The brush strokes perfectly complemented the drapey silhouettes, almost coming to life with every other step the models took.
5. Drake showing up at NYFW
Drizzy is undoubtably the hottest rapper in the game right now, and he took a break from being a monster in the studio (and the gym) to check out NYFW. Not only did he attend his bae Serena Williams' fashion show, he was also spotted outside of Yeezy Season 2.
6. Jeremy Scott's fingerprint T-shirt
Designer Jeremy Scott is having what looks like his best year ever, and this season he took inspiration from '80s East Village New York party girls who liked to dress in '60s styles. There was also a hint of '60s spy and mystery shows in the collection, seen in pieces like this T-shirt with a huge fingerprint on it.
7. Solange at the Prabal Gurung afterparty
No NYFW is complete without a few dope afterparties, and Solange held it down at Skylight Moynihan station after Prabal Gurung's Design Disrupted show. She spun some bangers and mouthed along the words to Britney Spears as 360-degree images of the runway clothes were displayed on a screen. The resulting immersive experience was definitely a fun time.
8. Lexus' awesome art car
Lexus teamed up with artist Shantell Martin to customize this amazing car for fashion legend and style blogger extraordinaire Susie Bubble. Previously they've driven her around in a chromed-out Lexus RC F that was hard to miss. This season's all-over print white car was equally impressive.
9. The Kardashian clan rolling deep
One of the season's most talked-about shows was Kanye West's Yeezy Season 2, and it was a spectacle, to say the least. Plenty of people outside were worthy of getting street styled, and the guest list was a mix of legit fashion people and big name celebrities. It's no surprise that the Kardashian clan came out to support, and we caught Kendall Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian as they made their way into the VIP entrance.
10. the totally luxe lexus lounge
Running around from show-to-show can be absolutely exhausting, and a literal drain on your battery life. One can only pop off so many fire Instagrams and live tweets from the runway before your phone (and body) need to recharge. Good thing the Lexus Lounge at Made Fashion Week in MILK Studios provided a welcome (and well-designed) respite from all the madness. Lexus Lounge and chill? Absolutely.
