It’d be easy to label Mia Moretti as the world-class DJ that she is. But quite frankly, that would be selling her short. Because, in addition to dropping killer sets at Coachella and SXSW, and opening for the Stevie Wonders and Aviciis of the world, her artistic nature expands across a variety of mediums. As it turns out, whether she’s channeling her inner interior designer at her uptown apartment or dropping makeup collections with some of the biggest brands in the business, her creativity seemingly has no bounds. Born in sunny L.A. and grown in gritty NYC (with a brief stint in Europe in-between), somewhere along the way, Moretti has developed a personal style and aesthetic that transcends all conventional boundaries and is unique to her self. It’s as though everything that she touches turns into ‘gram-worthy content. And in today’s social media-driven world, there’s something to be said about that type of influential prowess.

We recently got a chance to catch up with Moretti to discuss her how her personal style has evolved over the years and what inspires her to take it to the next level.

Inspiration means different things for different people. What is it that inspires you?
Inspiration is all around me. I get as much inspiration from my friends and family as I do from a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

You were recently featured in L’Officiel magazine. How important is style in your life?
The important things to me in my life are feelings, emotions, stories, colors, pictures, and sounds.  In essence, "style” is an outward projection of your inner world, but it's just that—a projection.

How has your personal style evolved over the years?
It changes all the time, with relationships, with friendships, with travels, and with weather.  Again, style is influenced by so many internal factors, but I always listen to my instincts—that's what never changes.

What about your musical taste? How has that evolved?
My musical tastes seem to vary a lot based on where I'm living. Music is such an experience for me, and I have so many associations with lyrics and melodies that what I'm listening to always seems to bookmark experiences in my life. I played a lot of electro when I lived in L.A., and when I moved to New York I played more Disco; there was also so much great nu-disco coming out of Brooklyn at the time that it was a natural reaction to my environment. Right now, I live uptown and see a lot of live jazz—that seems to be influencing a lot of the music I am making and playing at the moment.

Are there currently any upcoming projects that you are really excited about?
Releasing our EP for The Dolls. Coming off tour, we've been so inspired to make new music.  Hearing the new material we’ve been working on in a live setting and seeing a crowd react to it really makes us want to put it out into the world and share it with everyone.

By nature, the music industry seems to be heavily fueled by individuality and personal style. How important is that at the end of the day?
It's only as important as you make it. I think in the music world it's important to put your art first and not force too much around it. Style just happens, and the audience can feel when it's authentic or not.

You’ve been at all of the hottest parties and events in recent years, so there’s obviously a lot to celebrate there. So, which of your friends would you say give the best toasts?
Everyone who knows me knows that I am the queen of toasts. I will never let a dinner go by without going around the table, at least once, to honor and celebrate all of the beautiful people who are indulging in the evening with me. I would say my only friend that rivals my passion for a good toast is Michael Kives, who deserves a toast for his ability to toast! Here's to you Michael!

How do you take it to the next level?
I love what I do and I put everything into it. I don't make any apologies and I am not afraid to be myself. I’m not afraid to fail, I'm not afraid to try, and I'm not afraid to fly.
