Jay Z's Stylist Explains Why His Met Gala Look Didn't Match the Theme

The King and Queen don't follow rules.

The 2015 Met Gala is officially in our rearview, but people are still talking about the best and worst dressed celebrities of the night. Beyoncé killed it (as always) in Givenchy, but there were others on the red carpet who completely ignored the problematic "China: Through the Looking Glass" theme. Among them was Jay Z, who also wore Givenchy, but couldn't be bothered to meet the challenge of the theme. His stylist spoke to Page Six to essentially explain that there are levels to this shit.

"Do they follow rules? Never," said June Ambrose of people like Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian. "They were stage-savvy. A lot of people thought they weren’t right for that particular venue. But when you have a killer body like those ladies have... they’re gonna take things out of context. You don’t really give them rules." As for the decision for Jay Z to go straight Givenchy, Ambrose said she and Hov "went rogue...I work with Jay, we didn’t do a white tie, but he was the perfect accessory for his lady."

Anna Wintour may be banning celebrities from the event for posting selfies, but there really is nothing she can do to make people (especially not Beyonce and Jay Z) follow dress codes.
