It was announced yesterday that Rihanna has signed a deal with Puma, making her the brand's new creative director. The singer recently sat down with WWD to talk about her love for Puma, designing for the sportswear giant, and sneakers.

Rihanna spoke passionately about design, saying "I love designing... The thing I love most is the unexpected result between my brand and theirs, the combination, the marriage — it’s like having a baby, you put two things together and all of the sudden it bursts into a new thing." She went on to say that she'd treat her Puma collaboration the same way she did her MAC project, adding that she'll be involved with "every detail, from packaging to choosing textures and colors." Expect her Puma collection to be clearly Rihanna-influenced then.

As for why she decided to work with Puma, she said it's because the brand reminded her of her childhood. "Some of the first sneakers I owned were Puma," she said, adding that a pair made with Jamaican colors was the "it-shoe in Barbados [where she grew up]."

But it's not just Puma sneakers that she likes. She told the publication that she has just as many sneakers as she does heels; her massive shoe collection takes up roughly 1,000 square feet in a 4,000-square-foot storage facility.

No word on a release date for Rihanna x Puma just yet, but definitely stay tuned for RiRi season. You can read the whole interview over on WWD
