Bedell Cellars has a rich history of collaborating with artists to create beautiful labels to compliment their wines. Previous collaborators include Chuck Close, Barbara Kruger, and Eric Fischl, and now the Long Island-based winery has announced that Mickalene Thomas' artwork will be found on the new label of Bedell First Crush Red 2013.

According to the press release, Thomas selected a piece from her 2014 Tête de Femme series for the label, an abstract female face made of geometric cutouts.

"At Bedell, we are committed to great winemaking and combining these wonderful wines with extraordinary artwork from major contemporary artists is a perfect marriage of these two passions in my life," said owner Michael Lynne. "I have collected Mickalene’s art for many years, am a true fan of her work, and also truly value our friendship. I am delighted that Mickalene was so enthusiastic about having her dramatic artwork on our label for the upcoming release of our 2013 First Crush Red."

Speaking of the collaboration, Thomas said that she "knew immediately" that she wanted to draw from the series because of the "abstract and complex structure with vibrant color and sharpness—it just seemed perfect for the blend."

The Mickalene Thomas x Bedell Cellars collaboration will be available in limited quantities from select restaurants, wine retailers, and directly from www.bedellcellars.com, and there will be another First Crush White 2014 label collaboration with Thomas on the site in the near future.
