You have to respect a brand like Patagonia for its unwavering commitment to responsible manufacturing.

Starting from Fall 2014 forward, the outdoor apparel company will use 100 percent traceable down for its entire selection of down-insulated products. This implementation ensures that none of the goose feathers used in its outerwear will come from birds that endured inhumane treatment, such as live-plucking and force-feeding methods.

Using an independent traceability audit that involves thorough investigation of parent farms and garment factories, Patagonia is able to verify its sources are using sound animal welfare practices. This is excellent news for customers who want to keep warm without a sense of guilt.

In honor of the new enterprise, the company has released a short animated film that is aimed to inform consumers about the elements of down sourcing. Take a look at the film above. You can also shop the brand’s 100 percent traceable down collection, including the iconic Down Sweater Jacket pictured below, at Patagonia’s online store.
