Gypsy Sport Held a Fashion Show in Washington Square Park for New York Fashion Week

Gypsy Sport show in Washington Square Park for New York Fashion Week

Harlem-born brand Gypsy Sport has never really had a traditional runway show at New York Fashion Week, having first shown with VFiles for Spring/Summer 2014, but this season they really made waves. Founders Rio Uribe and Rome Williams masterminded a fashion show in Washington Square Park, where they coerced the typical Fashion Week crowd into loosening up and getting involved in some call and response games while they waited for the models to start walking. One spectator had to go there though and was heard grumbling "I'm not in a day camp situation." Spoil sport.

"I tried to take a little bit of every culture in New York," designer Rio told Dazed&Confused. "I wanted that 'where are you from?' ambiguous ethnicity feeling." Between them Rio and Rome have experience of working in the Balenciaga showroom under Nicolas Ghesquière, illustrating for Hood By Air, and styling A$AP Ferg’s, all influences they bring to their work. The brand started with headwear before moving on to crafting their own unique take on apparel, which is how they began working with VFiles, the online fashion community.

Check out some images of the show below and hope that next time you'll be in the right place at the right time. Maybe following their Instagram will help.
