Streetwear and sportswear have been creeping towards pure fashion for a long time, with collaborations and hybrids bringing the two worlds ever closer. But in London, brands like Cottweiler are leading the charge of young menswear designers who distinctly identify themselves as pure fashion, while using traditional sportswear and streetwear silhouettes and techniques.

Cottweiler's Fall/Winter '14 collection is an underlining of their understanding of their own brand and the movement they're spearheading; "This is not sportswear for sport and it's not streetwear for, or from, the street, it's clothing that’s responsive to our social environment, who we are and where we’re going."

The collection uses a wide range of fabrics and techniques to achieve what is an evolution of the signature Cottweiler aesthetic; Italian black memory taffeta is used for the tracksuits and the shell layer of the padded jackets, which have a Thermore synthetic down insulator and satin lining. The iridescent effect on the overcoats and pants comes from a transparent-nylon membrane bonded with white mesh, creating good, lightweight insulation. Jersey pieces are explored in a palette of white, cream and beige tonal shades, all with the signature Cottweiler tape details. Designers Ben Cottrell and Matt Dainty say the collection evokes “the bathroom, new-build, tiles, wet look sportswear fetish, and ceramic.”
