LRGandGallery 1988 East will bring Jay Shells' “The Rap Quotes” street art project into the gallery with an exhibition of the same name. Beginning April 25 and lasting through May 17, this show will display the talents of the New York street artist, whose craft combines the unlikely duo of government-sponsored signage and hip-hop culture.

For "The Rap Quotes" project, Shells creates street signs covered in rap lyrics that shout-out specific areas in New York. He then installs his signs in the corresponding areas that they reference. The artist’s choice of medium for an arguably subversive form of expression juxtaposes the law with its subjects.

Join the opening reception, hosted by Murs, on April 25 from 7-10 p.m.
