Have you every walked the streets of an old city and wondered what life was like a hundred years ago? Well, now you don’t have to imagine.

Amateur artist Shystone has juxtaposed images from London’s rich history with photographs of the modern day metropolis. Shystone, a Londoner, scouted out the locations of some well-known 17th, 18th, and 19th century paintings, photographed the modern site, and then used Photoshop to layer the images. The results invoke nostalgia but also an appreciation for how little has changed. Some of the images capture in harsh relief the modern innovations and infrastructure. Others blend together so well the difference is almost indiscernible.
