A three-year study done by the Global Language Monitor, a data-research company based in Austin, has concluded that New York City is the fashion capital of the world. Of course, everyone will have their own subjective opinion, but GLM used a methodology that has given a quantifiable answer to the matter.

By mining over 250,000 blogs, print outlets, and social media channels for fashion buzzwords, and how often those words relate to cities around the world. In short, New York City was more often associated with words and phrases like, "fashion," "best designers ever," "most stylish people in the world," and etc., enough times to eke out a victory by .5 percent over Paris.

The study concludes that the top five fashionable cities are New York, Paris, London, Los Angeles, and Barcelona. So yes, it's a very specific means of determining the most fashionable city in the world, especially when Parisian street style comes so correct. But with NYFW about to pop off, we now have an interesting background story to keep in mind when the street style photos and stories start rolling in.
