It's nearly impossible to keep track of all the insane auction totals from the major houses, but the most recent sale at Sotheby's was too good to ignore. At the end of the night, 47 of the 57 lots were sold, and the grand total sat at $144.6 million, up 18% from last year according to Bloomberg.

Among the top lots were Gerhard Richter's Wand (Wall) which sold for $28.7 million, Cy Twombly's Untitled, (Rome) which sold for $12.2 million, Andy Warhol's Mao which sold for $7.6 million, and Jean-Michel Basquiat's Tenor which moved for $4.3 million. Lucian Freud, Alberto Burri, Roy Lichtenstein, Yayoi Kusama, and several others also did well, as collectors proved that the time for buying is still good (unless you're looking steals).
