As a way to protect Kenya's ecosystem, ocean, and marine wildlife, Ocean Sole collects and recycles flip flops found on beaches and in waterways, turning them into handmade sculptures, keychains, door stoppers, and various other gifts and seasonal items. In 2013 alone, they managed to recycle approximately 50 tons of rubber soled flip flops. Because of the efforts, countless animals were saved and Kenyan artisans were given jobs.

With a large increase in sales, more money has been invested back into the company for materials and wages, which means more cute animal sculptures and a cleaner environment for Kenya. We wish there were more people doing this kind of work around the world. Using art to literally save the planet is amazing. For more information about Ocean Sole, visit their website here.
