Even if you don't know the name, you definitely know George Condo's art from his collaboration with Kanye West for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and more recently from the custom Hermes Birkin bag that Ye got for Kim Kardashian. Beyond that little celebrity connection, Condo is a well-respected American artist whose work has been exhibited around the world from Art Basel Miami Beach 2013 to MoMA and several other major art institutions. In February, the artist will open an exhibition of new works at Simon Lee Gallery in London.
Condo's portraits are often referred to as a unique blend of the grotesque and the beautiful. We can still read the faces as faces even though they are a comprised of various abstract pieces and implied features. Stylistically he borrows from various artists, but Condo's work is immediately recognized as his own innovative and ultra-unique aesthetic.
