The moment of impact.

The images in the “Detonations” series by Swiss photographer Ueli Alder are singularly terrifying and beautiful, created from a number of different sources. This includes pictures sampled from the Internet, spliced with photos of real weapons testing, and screen grabs from video games with explosive moments. He then splices these sources together into something incredibly real—and incredibly frightening. The artist told the New Yorker he was exploring ideas of spectacle in the presentation of war, contemplating just how spectacular these types of images might have to be in the future, so that people pay attention to them at all. Check out the incredible shots above.
