While anyone who’s ever been in high school has doodled on desks, only artist Humberto Casas Junca has turned this absent-minded activity into true art. Junca juxtaposes school desks, symbolic of the innocence and naivety of childhood, with the dark imagery of Colombian and Norwegian black metal logos. Some of the images include calls for revolution, mass destruction, and people bleeding to death in the street. The drawings are done using black and bloody red ink. The violence and dangerousness of the drawings clash with the well-known and well-loved medium, which leaves viewers everywhere feeling unsettled.
