For the final stage of the High Line Park development, the organization Friends of the High Line has teamed up with architecture firms Diller Scofidio + Renfro and James Corner Field Operations (the original designers of the High Line) to propose a large flora-filled nest that will act as an escape from the busy city streets.

Designed like an amphitheater, this giant green bowl will sit on the Spur section of the High Line, an area between the first stage of the park and the High Line Rail Yards that branches off on 30th street. The Spur is the widest area of the park, and the proposed bowl would act as an impressive entrance point to the High Line.

The bowl will be filled with different foliage that, like the rest of the park, will change through the seasons. It will act as a natural oasis amid New York but also includes workspace and public bathrooms.

The final plans for the High Line extension are expected to be confirmed in 2014.
