According to the New York Times, there were 679 entries submitted from 15 countries around the world. The pool was narrowed to 50, and now that 50 has been reduced to five finalists whose designs will be prototyped and presented to the public for consideration before the committee makes a final decision. The five designers/teams chosen are Simon Kristak and Aidan Jamison of the United States, the Pitanga team from Brazil, Maria Camarena Bernard of Mexico, Andrew Jones, and Jason Bird, also from the United States. The winning design will be produced and installed in the park and the designer or firm responsible will receive $10,000.
