Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run DMC is hoping to release a Hip Hop indie comic book. The 48-page graphic novel will be published independently under the imprint Darryl Makes Comics. It will also be edited by art director Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez and music executive Riggs Morales.

However the venture will require some outside help. Comic book artists Damion Scott, Dexter Vines, and writer Ronald Wimberly will also help out. DMC also needs help from you: the project has its own Kickstarter page, with the goal of $100,000.

The work, entitled DMC, is slated to be released this fall. It will feature DMC as a crime-fighting superhero situated in the '80s. "Wild Style-inspired graffiti covers every surface of this world as the true grit of pre-Giuliani New York is captured within the pages of the graphic novel," according to the Kickstarter.

“It gives us an opportunity to be the first hip-hop comic book publisher and be completely funded by the fans whose reward is this actual historic book,” said Rodriguez. You can see more about the project in the video below.
