Pingtan is a small Chinese island city that will be home to an art museum with the potential of attracting international attention, so the art world better recognize. Chinese firm MAD has unveiled their plans for the Pingtang Art Museum slated to cover a whopping 40,000 square meters. When finished, it will be the largest private museum in Asia with thousands of historical and national pieces.

The shape of Pingtan is a sting ray, and the architects decided to make the structure basically a smaller version of the island. Surprisingly, the structure will be made out of cement, local seashells, and sand, all meant to incorporate the aesthetic of Pingtan. However, despite the care for connecting the museum to island visually, it's not as connected physically; only a pier will connect the structure to the land, so visitors will have to be careful.
